Last weekend, during Wizard World’s stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the traveling comic book convention held a Grimm panel featuring Bitsie Tulloch (Eve), Sasha Roiz (Captain Sean Renard), and David Giuntoli (Nick).
Having sat in on a few of these panels, it’s fascinating to see how the stars interact with each other when the camera isn’t rolling. The three seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company and sincerely appreciate their fans’ support.
Here are some tidbits from the Grimm Panel.
- Grimm’s next season (6) was very much in doubt and wasn’t known until they were almost done filming the current season. Bitsie said it created a stressful environment for both the cast and crew.
- David noted, “We don’t know if next season is the last season. The next season is an order of 13 episodes but there is talk to extend it to a full order.” He commented that if this is the last season, he hopes they know soon so the writers can write a proper ending rather than having to create a sudden ending.
- The last hour of the two-hour finale is one of Bitsie’s favorite episodes of the series. Sasha confessed as of May 8, 2016, he hadn’t seen it yet.
- Sasha doesn’t have a favorite episode but he likes the ones that explore the mythology more than the procedural episodes.
- Sasha and Bitsie’s favorite country to visit and see fan reaction to the show is Europe. David replied, “Brazil loves Grimm.”
- Grimm doesn’t use many prosthetics on the show, much to Sasha’s relief. “So glad it’s CGI, not makeup.”
- One of their young fans attending asked what their greatest fear was. David shared a traumatic incident he had as a child involving a bird. Bitsie confessed to being afraid of spiders. As a kid, Sasha said he was afraid of the basement but his mother would constantly send him down there to get things anyway.
- Regarding Jacqueline Toboni, who plays Trubel, David noted, “We knew a new character was being created.” He went on to reveal a wide net was cast, and there was lots of talk and whispers among the cast and crew.
- Twins are used to play baby Kelly Schade-Burkhardt, and one of them once pooped on Sasha. David joked, “They are the only thing stinkier than me.”
- According to Sasha, he doesn’t see his character as evil. “He’s self-serving. He’s not changing; he’s just more agreeable.”
- Regarding cats and dogs, David is allergic to cats so he’s a dog guy. Bitsie loves all hairy things, including David. Sasha is a dog guy.
- When asked about the most intense moment on the series, Bitsie commented about the season four finale, “Cry Havoc.” She really encouraged David to go for it in the scene where he chokes her. But she regretted it the next day because her body felt like she had actually been attacked. Sasha talked about the love triangle in season two, as it was one of the more challenging scenes. For David, it was “finding mom’s head in a box.” That scene was filmed in bits and pieces over the course of a day and was tough to do. He talked about how important it was to keep the intensity at the same level all day so when the scene was put together, the consistency was on point.
- When asked who the prankster on the show is, David was quick to reply, “I am the child of the cast.” David will put oil on doorknobs and raw bacon in people’s shoes. He loves having a spray bottle with water and walking up behind someone and pretending to sneeze. Bitsie got even by swapping out David’s new car. She secretly filmed him as he tried getting in but the automobile’s doors and keys didn’t work.
- When talking about their favorite action scene, Sasha mentioned this season’s “The Beginning of the End, Part 1” (episode 21) has the best action in the show. Bitsie answered it was a fight scene from season three where she and another female character kick a guy’s ass. Sasha reiterated there are some great stunts coming up for this season’s finale.
- Bitsie teased what fans could expect coming up, “Someone we all love dies.”
