Who hasn’t heard the story or seen the real life trial of pro athlete O.J. Simpson for murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman? Anyone who lives under a rock, I suppose. As previously announced, FX’s new series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson comes from producers Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski, and Brad Falcuk, and is based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin. The limited series is written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Murphy will also direct the first two episodes. The show is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles, with a premiere date set for early 2016.
Here’s a first look at the official cast photos. First up is O.J. himself, played by Oscar® winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. wearing exactly the kind of clothing O.J. wore during his trial.
Next is Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner John Travolta as Simpson’s attorney, Robert Shapiro. I’d love to know what’s going on in his mind in this picture, wouldn’t you?
Here’s Emmy® nominee David Schwimmer as Simpson’s other defense attorney, Robert Kardashian. Schwimmer even has Kardashian’s famous grey streak in his hair.
The transformation of Courtney B. Vance into defense attorney Johnnie Cohran is outstanding.
Marcia Clarke, the prosecuting attorney, is played by Sarah Paulson. Great wig!
Last but not least is Billy Magnussen, who is cast as Simpson’s not-so-welcome houseguest, Kato Kaelin.
Murphy previously announced, via Twitter, the role of Nicole’s friend, Faye Resnick, will be played by Connie Britton.
Additional casting includes Selma Blair as Kris Kardashian, who was wed to attorney Robert Kardashian Sr. at the time of the trial.
So, what’s your opinion of the casting for American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson? Does it meet your expectations? If not, who do you think should have been cast? Hit me up on Twitter @SeasideTV or drop me a line in the comments section below.
