AMC’s FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Season 8 The Final Season: Hints about Season 8 and the Long Goodbye.
Fear The Walking Dead, AMC’s thrilling series, is set to make its highly anticipated return on May 14th with its eighth and final season. Your Entertainment Corner had the privilege of participating in an intimate press conference at WonderCon featuring the talented cast members Kim Dickens, Jenna Elfman, and Christine Evangelista, alongside Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner Ian Goldberg, as well as Executive Producer and Director Michael Satrazemis.
During the interview, the atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and sentimental stories, as the cast reflected on their journey throughout the eight seasons of filming. The bond they formed over the years was akin to that of a close-knit family. While a sense of melancholy lingered, as they knew this marked the end of their gatherings and memorable convention appearances, they were determined to give their characters a fitting conclusion.
Ian Goldberg revealed that approaching the final season had a profound impact on the way they crafted the story. They aimed to honor the events of season seven, which carried a significant narrative weight, while also ensuring that season eight had ample room to unravel its own compelling tale. With just twelve episodes remaining, the trajectory of the characters would come full circle, prompting them to reflect on the past in order to forge ahead into the future.
Kim Dickens, who has returned to Fear The Walking Dead after her departure in Season four, reflected on the past at her surprise and dismay upon learning that her time on the show was coming to an end. She admitted needing a bit of magic to cope with finishing her initial time on the series but was grateful for the support she received from Executive Producer and Director Michael Satrazemis. Kim was delighted to rejoin the Fear The Walking Dead family and cherished the warm welcome she received.
Jenna Elfman, known for her portrayal of June, shared her preparation for the final season involved immersing herself in the Savannah location early on, particularly by spending time near the water. The water plays a prominent role throughout the season, and the change in location provided a stimulating environment to fuel inspiration.
Christine Evangelista, who plays Sherry, revealed that her character’s role as a mother in season eight heavily influenced her choices and decisions. She believed that the lessons learned from their past experiences would pave the way to the series’ conclusion.
Kim Dickens mentioned that her character starts this season in an unfamiliar emotional state, reaching a low point in her journey.
When asked about the possibility of characters from The Walking Dead appearing on Fear The Walking Dead, Michael and Ian responded evasively, leaving room for speculation since the show had relocated to Georgia.
Ian Goldberg disclosed that the radioactive environment depicted in season seven would have far-reaching effects on certain characters, with these effects continuing to be present in season eight.
He further shared that when Andrew Chambliss (Executive Producer) discussed wrapping up seasons seven and eight, they couldn’t fathom doing it without Madison (Kim Dickens), indicating the significance of her character in the overall narrative.
The interview concluded with expressions of love and appreciation from the cast and crew, emphasizing the strong bond they had formed over the years. It truly felt like a love fest, reminiscent of the familial themes portrayed in the series.
REFLECTIONS ON FEAR THE WALKING DEAD
“I love watching my co-stars and I remember one night with Coleman (Domingo). I was just watching him and watching him. And then he goes, he’s on camera. And he goes it’s your line. Because I was just like I was mesmerized watching everybody be their best.”
Kim Dickens, WonderCon 2023
“I mean, fondest memories, I mean, you know, being on The Walking Dead with Christine. And then having her arrived here, I remember her first day I’m on The Walking Dead. So it’s so special when she arrives, Jenna, dumping her in the oil tank and, and watching this comedic actress that has been very fun to grab drama, on another level, moving into a you know, really crazy environment. For me. Season Four was a huge opportunity just to learn about myself, and what I could do in a reinvention. And then I also just knew it was going into a very hostile environment potentially. But not having to be hostile and, and seeing that the grace that Kim works under that was really special to me, because I was prepared for like a few. So who are you? What do you get coming over here, you think you’re, you know, all these things that never occurred. And while at the same time, I was going to learn a little bit about what I can do. And myself and that, that that that didn’t occur, and then getting to, to have come back in a different atmosphere and really enjoy creating on you know, on the level that it should be without all the complications, that’s special. I just have a million fond memories but they’re all equally special and beautiful.” – Michael Satrazemis
“Most of my scenes are with Austin Amelio (Dwight) and so it’s usually the two of us in some situation. Anytime he’s about to go make the killing I’m like I was, I was just about to do that. You know, it’s constantly we’re constantly doing that with each other all day and I’m like every time he gets a good one I’m like, yeah!” –
Christine Evangelista, WonderCon 2023
“I have so many memories that I will I will cherish and it really it hit me on set when we were filming the finale and really when Mikey was giving a speech if you ever need a speech off the cuff from the heart, this is the guy because I had been able to hold it together and not cry up until that moment and Mikey just totally broke me. But you know it’s not lost on me or I think I can speak for Andrew (Chambliss) as well that you don’t always, I think it’s very rare. that you get to be a part of something that is so creatively fulfilling. That also affords you the opportunity to work with amazing people that are kind and brilliant and warm and really formed a family. I don’t think that those two things intersect often. And to have had the chance to come into this show into this universe and to be a part of it for so many years is a real gift. And I’m still processing the end of it for sure. Like it keeps coming in waves.” – Ian Goldberg
FAVORITE WALKER DEMISES
As for favorite moments, each cast member and director had their own memorable scenes. Kim Dickens highlighted a propeller in a boat with a guy incident in Mexico, while Michael Satrazemis recalled the airplane propeller scene from season five. Ian Goldberg loved the walker fused to a shopping cart from season seven and the machete-through-the-chest walker from the Laura episode. Jenna Elfman fondly remembered a rooftop scene in season five that involved traversing ladders connecting cars and dispatching walkers, and Christine Evangelista’s most enjoyable moment was the wrestling ring scene, which included an extra day of thrilling stunt work.
With only twelve episodes remaining to wrap up the series, Satrazemis affirmed that the series is a wild ride at lightspeed.
Are you ready for the wild ride? Are you ready for end of Fear The Walking Dead? What cast member would you like to see move on into The Walking Dead Universe?
