I’m not ashamed to admit I adore Dane Cook. I love his sense of humor and I think he’s a handsome dude. When I go to Burger King, I do call it the ‘BK Lounge’ sometimes – a nod to some of Cook’s earlier stand-up comic routines. I thoroughly enjoy Cook’s realistic and comedic views on certain real life situations. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but that’s with any comic. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t.
If you’ve listened to some of Cook’s earlier comedy shows, there is one from Retaliation: Need called “The Nothing Fight” and I have to tell you, when he goes into the grocery store portion about the couple fighting over if there is or isn’t “jelly in the house,” I laugh so hard because I’ve actually witnessed a real life ‘nothing fight’ before. Although it was about toilet paper not jelly. I can listen to it over and over and it’s still hilarious every single time.
The last comedy album I have from Dane is ISolated INcident, and there are some great gems on this album. So I’m very excited to see Cook’s new comedy event Troublemaker. If you haven’t checked out any of Cook’s other comedy albums, please check out Retaliation: Want, Retaliation: Need, Vicious Circle and Harmful If Swallowed.
SHOWTIME® & DANE COOK TEAM UP FOR “TROUBLEMAKER”
Stand-Up Comedy Event To Have World Premiere Friday, October 17th at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Los Angeles, CA (August 7, 2014) – Dane Cook returns to the stage with his directorial debut in DANE COOK TROUBLEMAKER, premiering Friday, October 17th at 10 p.m. (ET/PT) on SHOWTIME. Filmed last fall in front of a raucous audience, Cook’s acerbic wit and patented brand of provocative, on-fire comedic insight skewers the hilarious aspects of everyday life and human behavior. This comedy event shows off Cook’s ability to not only perform in-depth comedy routines, but film them in a style that speaks to a new generation of comedy fans everywhere.
In TROUBLEMAKER, Cook dismantles the modern-day relationship, holds a mirror up to society and generally torches observational humor to the bone. Cook shares his beliefs and perspectives with his fans and he does not hold back. Delving into a wide range of topics from tech relationships to blowing the lid off of gender secrets to our hidden Internet lives and how we mask our depression, joy and temptations – no topic is off limits.
Dane Cook has maintained his reputation as one of today’s most prolific stand-up comedians selling out Madison Square Garden multiple times over, while simultaneously distinguishing himself as a charismatic and versatile actor in a variety of film and television projects. Cook recently wrapped his 20-date “Under Oath” tour. With this set, he aimed to emulate the tone of 2003’s Harmful If Swallowed album, which just celebrated its 10-year anniversary. He is well known for his successful comedy albums, including Harmful If Swallowed; Retaliation; Vicious Circle; Rough Around The Edges: Live From Madison Square Garden; ISolated INcident; and Dane Cook: I Did My Best – Greatest Hits. In 2006, Retaliation became the highest charting comedy album in 28 years and went Double Platinum, earning him a place alongside best-selling comedy vets Bill Cosby, George Carlin and Steve Martin. Cook created, directed and starred in the nine-part comedy documentary series, Tourgasm and wrote, executive produced and starred in Vicious Circle, a feature-length stand-up event.
His other film and TV credits include starring roles in My Best Friend’s Girl, opposite Kate Hudson; Dan In Real Life, opposite Steve Carell; Mr. Brooks, opposite Kevin Costner; and a guest starring role on the hit show, Louie, opposite Louis C.K., just to name a few. Cook recently reprised his role as the voice of “Dusty” in Disney’s animated film Planes: Fire & Rescue, the sequel to Planes, which is currently in theaters and has grossed almost $80 million worldwide.
