“It isn’t a power. It’s a curse. This is our trouble.”  – Duke

“Lay Me Down” is hands down the best episode of Haven so far this season. There is a plethora of drama, mystery, a delightfully scary new trouble, and of course, chivalry and romance. In a look back from last week’s episode “Countdown,” we know Jordan (Kate Kelton) met her demise at the hands of Wade Crocker (Christian Camargo). But Jordan is the one who put nasty thoughts into Wade’s head, making him think he’s someone “special,” not thinking Wade would turn on her as he did. She underestimated the power of the blood’s euphoric properties and Wade’s inability to resist.

Haven - Season 4 Ep "Lay Me Down"As we dive into “Lay Me Down,” the entire town is on NoDoz® because someone’s sleep trouble is causing dreams to become reality—and not in a good way. One town drunk dreams about being mauled by a bear (seriously) and he dies in his sleep looking like…he was mauled by a bear. But our main characters aren’t immune to this trouble. Duke (Eric Balfour) has a nightmare about Wade lusting for another taste of troubled blood – his blood. Not a good thing to dream about your brother wanting to kill you. But the whole notion behind the Crocker curse is if Duke or Wade kills a troubled person, it ends that person’s family’s trouble forever. Keep that in mind as you continue reading.

Some Dreams Aren’t So Bad…

Haven - Season 4 Ep "Lay Me Down"Nathan (Lucas Bryant) may not be dreaming about bear maulings or numerous bee stings, but he’s getting punished nonetheless. Seeing Bryant naked does strange and wonderful things to me and I will leave it at that. The strategic globe placement is just hilarious. But seeing Lexie/Audrey (Emily Rose) as a sexy school teacher, paddle in hand, is icing on the naked cake. I love how Rose immerses herself into the Lexie persona. She has completely transformed—down to twirling her longer hair and the tone of her voice. If she’s not careful though, more people are going to figure out she’s really Audrey pretending to be Lexie. She needs to cut out being so quick to offer up answers at crime scenes—something Audrey was good at doing.

Brotherly Love?

Admittedly, I never warmed up to Wade but I think that’s the angle Camargo wanted to go with his character. He isn’t supposed to be well liked. Wade is the mysterious older brother who swoops into town after Duke venture into the barn.  Duke pieces together the sinister happenings around Haven, thus testing the bonds of brotherhood when he realizes Wade has been on a killing spree. Pushed to the edge when Wade threatens to hurt Jennifer (Emma Lahana), Duke must make a decision but the ramifications may change his destiny.

Haven - Season 4 Ep "Lay Me Down"And then we have the other brotherly duo in Haven — the Teague brothers, Vince (John Dunsworth) and Dave (Richard Donat). I’m ready for more of their back story and to find out what their particular trouble is. You know they have to have one…don’t they? The brothers are up to something and hiring Jennifer to work at the Haven Herald isn’t out of the kindness of their hearts. They want to know more about her link to the barn, and in an interesting twist discover Jennifer has a deeper connection to the former Agent Howard (Maurice Dean Wint) that even she didn’t know about. I’m so intrigued. I don’t think Jennifer’s ability to simply hear voices from the barn is all she’s capable of.

Bullet Magnet Even In Dreams

I’ve missed Dwight (Adam Copeland). He’s not really had a prominent presence for a few episodes and I hope the writers utilize and capitalize on Copeland’s subtle yet effecting acting skills. I’m anxious to find out what he and Vince are working on in an effort to end the troubles. I am also curious to find out what Dwight will do when he finds out Lexie is really Audrey. I’m just glad he didn’t die in his dream. What a crappy trouble to have – bullet magnet.

The Trouble of the Week

Haven - Season 4 Ep "Lay Me Down"A sleep trouble – whatever happens in your dreams happens in real life, including death. When Audrey and Nathan find Carrie (Kandyse McClure), she is already fully aware of her trouble but has no idea that it spread to others. What I find shocking is not what she’s afraid of in her dreams, but who she’s afraid of. The same two thugs Lexie encountered in the bar back in the season premiere are the same two guys Carrie is fearful of. But these guys aren’t just in her dreams; she was accosted by them. Are these the strangers we were told in several conference calls would be coming to Haven? And how creepy is it that they spy on Lexie and Nathan at her apartment?

Interesting lines/scene

After Lexie notices a strange hand print on Carrie’s back, she poses an interesting theory:

Lexie: “It’s a mark that only I can see. Maybe that’s why her trouble mutated or spread to other people.”

Nathan: “That’s not how the troubles work.”

Lexie: “Yeah, but what if it’s all changing?”

When Nathan shot Agent Howard at the end of last season, he set off a chain of events. Perhaps this is one of them.

In Nathan’s naked classroom dream, teacher Lexie demands an answer to the question on the board:

“Who do you love?”

a)     Audrey Parker

b)     Sarah Vernon

c)      Lexie DeWitt

d)     None of the above

e)     All of the above

Just when I think Nathan is going to cower away from his feelings as he walks abruptly out of Lexie’s apartment…all I can say is FINALLY! After three and a half seasons…finally!
