TV News: Smithsonian Channel Celebrates America’s National Parks At 100 Sunday, Aug 28
It began as a radical idea to preserve a mysterious land of “boiling sulpher springs.” Now the National Park Service is 100 years old – with more than 400 places we’ve seen fit to save forever. TV News: Starz Sets Course for Treasure Island In the Fourth and Final Season of BLACK SAILS
Starz announced that the fourth season of the Emmy®-winning Original series “Black Sails” will bring fans to the heroic conclusion of the Treasure Island prequel. The 10-episode fourth season of the stand-out high seas drama returns in 2017, and finds our pirates at war in the West Indies. The shores of New Providence Island have never been bloodier, but the closer civilization comes to defeat, the more desperately, and destructively, it will fight back.

TV News: Kyra Sedgwick to Make Directorial Debut With Lifetime’s STORY OF A GIRL
Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actress Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) will have her directorial debut with Lifetime’s Story of a Girl, based on the novel of the same name by Sara Zarr. The feature film is a powerful coming-of-age story about a teen who must deal with the ramifications of a sex video that goes viral. Segwick’s husband, Kevin Bacon, is also set to star. Production begins this September in Vancouver for a 2017 debut on Lifetime following the film’s festival run.

News: Amazon Greenlights Two Additional Seasons of Original Series CATASTROPHE
Amazon announced it has greenlit two additional seasons of the critically-acclaimed series, Catastrophe. Written by and starring Rob Delaney (Mother. Wife. Sister. Human. Warrior. Falcon. Yardstick. Turban. Cabbage.) and Sharon Horgan (Pulling), Catastrophe, produced by Avalon Television, with co-producers Birdbath Productions and Merman, is a comedy following an Irish woman and an American man who, after making a bloody mess as they struggled to fall in love in London, have embarked on a series of best-attempts to clear it up and generally do the right thing. The highly anticipated third season of Catastrophe is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the US in 2017, and the fourth season is expected to premiere in 2018.

TV News: FOX Makes Put Pilot Commitment For New Marvel Action-Adventure Series
The UNTITLED FOX MARVEL PROJECT will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.

The final wave of the #TEENCHOICE 2016TM nominations have been announced, with music superstar Justin Bieber leading with five nominations. Additional nominees include web/digital stars Lily Singh (“Superwoman”) and Cameron Dallas; and models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. TV News/Video: USA Network Greenlights CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST For Season 5 and Adds Six More Episodes To 4th Season
USA Network has extended its commitment to America’s favorite family, with a 12-episode Season 5 pick-up of the original hit reality series CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST. The network is also adding six additional episodes to Season 4 – bringing the fourth season order total to 26 episodes.

Casting News: Rob Lowe Joins Cast of CBS’ CODE BLACK
Rob Lowe has joined the cast of the medical drama CODE BLACK as a series regular. His character will be introduced in the series’ second season premiere, Wednesday, Sept. 28 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Lowe will play Colonel Ethan Willis, a doctor in the U.S. Military’s prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine.

TV News: FX Sets Fall Premiere Dates for ATLANTA, BETTER THINGS, and Season 6 of AMERICAN HORROR STORY
FX has set the premiere dates for two of the year’s most anticipated new comedy series, Atlanta and Better Things, as well as the return of the acclaimed and award-winning American Horror Story for its sixth installment, it was announced today by Chuck Saftler, President of Program Strategy and COO, FX Networks. Atlanta, a half-hour comedy series created by and starring Donald Glover, will premiere on FX on September 6, followed two days later by Better Things, a half-hour comedy series co-created by Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. and starring Adlon. Then on September 14, the as-yet-untitled sixth installment of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning limited series American Horror Story returns from co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

TV News: Travel Channel Special ISLAND FEVER Premieres July 9
Drummer Stewart Copeland of The Police is on a mission to soak up all the sun, fun and adventure the island paradise of Bali has to offer in Travel Channel’s “Island Fever,” premiering on Saturday, July 9 at 12:00 p.m. ET/PT. “You discover the rhythm of a place through the eyes of the locals,” said Copeland. In the hour-long special, Copeland dives headfirst into the Java Sea to surf Bali’s famous waves, drinks local moonshine in the rice fields and jams with a Balinese gamelan drumming group.

TV News: AMC Renews PREACHER For An Expanded Second Season
AMC announced that it has renewed its cinematic and critically acclaimed supernatural series “Preacher” for an expanded 13-episode second season, slated for 2017. Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, “Preacher” is a supernatural and darkly comedic drama that follows a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer who is inhabited by a mysterious entity called Genesis that gives him the power to make people do whatever he commands. Once this power attracts the attention of two mysterious angels, Fiore and DeBlanc, Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

GUERRILLA centers on a couple, “Jas” and “Marcus” (casting to be revealed soon), whose passion propels them into making the leap from political activism to radical militancy. Academy Award® winner John Ridley (American Crime) will write, direct and executive produce the limited series. For over 70 years, the iconic flag-raising photograph at Iwo Jima has been one of the most reproduced images in history, inspiring books, movies and the Marine Corps War Memorial in Washington, DC. In a new one-hour Smithsonian Channel special, the United States Marine Corps will confirm the identity of a previously unknown flag raiser on Iwo Jima. Forensic evidence provided by Smithsonian Channel and production company Lucky 8 TV reveals that unsung hero U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. and Purple Heart recipient Harold Schultz was one of the flag raisers in Joe Rosenthal’s famed Iwo Jima photo taken on February 23, 1945.
