The Americans – “Stealth” Review. They’re Getting Closer. 1

This week’s installment of The Americans delves further into the technology needed for the stealth program, and the lengths the Russians will go to obtain it. In addition, Philip (Matthew Rhys) finds out the FBI knows about the Connors, and also learns Stan (Noah Emmerich) has interviewed the Connors’ son Jared (Owen Campbell). This doesn’t bode well for Philip and Elizabeth (Keri Russell), now does it? And let’s not forget, Larrick (Lee Tergesen) is still lurking about. He’s a very dangerous man.

The Americans – “Yousaf” Review. They're Getting Closer. 3

“Yousaf” leaves its viewers with many questions, and to me, that is one of the hallmarks of a good episode. The episode provokes you to question people’s motives, elicits feelings you didn’t know you had, and is wonderfully written and acted.

The Americans – “Martial Eagle” Review. Guilt Can Do Strange Things. 4

Guilt plays a large role in this week’s episode of The Americans. “Martial Eagle” is a very powerful episode, leaving you glued to the screen more than once during the 70 minutes it’s on. Things don’t go as planned for Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) at Martial Eagle, the training camp for Nicaraguans, which has a profound effect on both of them. FBI Agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) addresses his guilt during “Martial Eagle” as well, on top of dealing with a heartbreaking turn of events with his wife Sandra (Susan Misner). Guilt can do strange things to people, as we see in this ninth installment of The Americans.

The Americans – “New Car” Review. How Far Would You Go?

The Americans - "New Car" Review. How Far Would You Go? 5

While “New Car” exhibits Philip’s (Matthew Rhys) love for many things American, it also reaffirms his hatred for America when he learns the Americans planted the propeller plans he and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) stole last week in “Arpanet,” which led to the deaths of 180 Russian men aboard a submarine. In the meantime, despite Martha (Alison Wright) telling Clark/Philip “everything is great” between them, she attempts to throw a monkey wrench into the works concerning her job. She has no idea that what she’s asking Clark to do may very well signal the end of their marriage unless Clark can find a way to dissuade her. “New Car” deals with loyalty—to countries and people you love.

The Americans – Review of “Arpanet.” A Rat, Some Cheese, and a Tiger

The Americans - Review of "Arpanet." A Rat, Some Cheese, and a Tiger 7

“Arpanet” moves the storyline along nicely and is a very interesting episode. We see Lucia for who she truly is, as well as a new side of Nina. Mahendru is doing such a good job of portraying Nina, I can’t tell whose side Nina is on. Just when I think she is truly in love with Stan, she does an abrupt about face with Oleg. Or does she?

The Plot Thickens. Review: The Americans – “Behind the Red Door” 8

“Behind the Red Door” is a very intriguing episode for several reasons. Outside of the usual brilliant dialogue, mostly wonderful direction, and superb acting, “Behind the Red Door” left me with several questions, something I like when watching my favorite TV shows.

How Far Will Raylan Go? Review: Justified – "Starvation" 10

“Starvation” is the penultimate episode to the season five finale. While there are moments of intrigue and complexity, a lot falls flat. After last week’s explosive (all puns intended) showing in “The Toll,” my hopes were high for a continuation of exciting episodes leading into the finale but alas, “Starvation” leaves me…hungry.

The Race is On. Review: The Americans – “The Deal”

The Race is On. Review: The Americans - "The Deal" 21

“The Deal” is a very interesting episode as it gives us an inside look at the political workings of three powerful countries, each with its own reason for wanting the Soviet defector. It also delves further into Elizabeth and Philip’s marriage, and leaves you feeling sorry for Baklanov, the pawn in the game the world powers are playing.
