<i>Ray Donovan</i> – “Uber Ray” Review. A Dog with a Bone. 3

“Uber Ray” is another great episode of Ray Donovan, especially because so many different sides of Ray are shown. The current story lines are expanded upon, drawing viewers deeper into what makes Ray, Mickey, Abby, and the others tick. I must say, Ann-Margret is beautiful as always, and Malcomson is quite the knockout in that sexy, dominatrix-style lingerie she purchases.

Tyrant – “Sins of the Father” Review. Will History Be Repeated?

Tyrant – “Sins of the Father” Review. Will History Be Repeated? 7

“Sins of the Father” is another intense episode providing more insight into each of the characters. It also sheds light on how militants operate, and the manner in which the people of a Middle Eastern country are forced to live. Against all odds, Jamal is trying to change the way his people look at him as a ruler with the help of his brother, Bassam, who, himself, receives comfort and advice from his wife Molly (Jennifer Finnigan). We all need someone, don’t we?

Ray Donovan Season 2 Premiere – “Yo Soy Capitán” Review. Problems Galore.

<i>Ray Donovan</i> Season 2 Premiere – “Yo Soy Capitán” Review. Problems Galore. 9

Season 2 of Ray Donovan opens with Ray (Liev Schreiber) in the midst of an extremely frightening dream. If your dreams are an extension of your real life, as some people say, I am worried about what’s in store for our favorite fixer this season. Ray’s way of proving he’s ok when he wakes up from the nightmare seems odd to me. Is it because he loves having that kind of sex with his wife Abby (Paula Malcolmson), or is it his way of dealing with the events of his childhood?

<i>Tyrant</i> - "My Brother's Keeper" Retrospective. Can a Tyrannical Leader Change His Nefarious Ways? 11

“My Brother’s Keeper” is another riveting episode of Tyrant. It is well written, each character is multi-faceted, and the dialogue is sharp. Each episode is more intense and more captivating than the last, making it impossible not to look forward to what’s in store down the road.

Tyrant – “State of Emergency” Retrospective. Terrorists Come in All Sizes. 13

Overall, “State of Emergency” is a good episode that delves further into character development, giving us a good look at what makes these people tick. It’s nice to see the brothers Al-Fayeed getting along so well, especially now that Bassam has decided to stay in Abbudin for the near future. I can’t wait to find out what Molly has to say about that. Will she, daughter Emma (Anne Winters), and son Sammy (Noah Silver) want to stay with Bassam, or will they leave him there and return to the States? If Sammy has anything to say about it, I’m sure he’ll opt to stay as he still has his eye on Abdul (Mehdi Dehbi). I smell trouble ahead.

<i>Tyrant</i> Series Premiere - "Pilot" Spoiler-Free Review. Just When He Thought He Was Out... 17

Given the success of many FX television series, I was very much anticipating the series premiere of FX’s newest political drama, Tyrant. Since I have already reviewed two other political dramas, Showtime’s Homeland and FX’s The Americans, I figured this was right up my proverbial alley. Lucky me, I was given the first four episodes for review purposes.

<i>Edge of Tomorrow</i> Review, Photos, and Promo. You Can't Keep a Good Man Dead. 19

Edge of Tomorrow is a great blockbuster action movie that is visually stunning, entertaining summer fare that reminded me of a video game. Kids especially will enjoy the flick for that reason alone. After all, what kid playing a video game doesn’t want a do over when his player is killed so he can get it right?

<i>The Night Shift</i> – “Second Chances” Spoiler-Free Advance Review. <i>M.A.S.H.</i> Meets <i>Royal Pains</i> 21

The Night Shift is full of witty dialogue, doctors and nurses who work hard and play hard (check out their rooftop lounge!), fun banter, social commentary on the state of the bureaucratic handling of hospitals, and edge-of-your-seat medical drama. It’s intense, gripping, and fun to watch.

The Americans Season Finale – “Echo” Retrospective. It’s Never Who You Think It Is.

The Americans Season Finale – “Echo” Retrospective. It’s Never Who You Think It Is. 23

“Echo” begins with a heart-racing scene as Golden Earring’s “When the Bullet Hits the Bone” plays in the background. Emotions run high in this season finale as Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) deal with Paige (Holly Taylor); Stan (Noah Emmerich) decides what to do about Nina (Annet Mahendru); and finally, the Connors’ murderer is revealed. If you’ve read my review of “Operation Chronicle,” I totally saw that coming!

FX and FXX Set Summer Premiere Dates for New and Returning Original Series 24

I have long been a fan of The Bridge, Wilfred, and The Americans, series that air on the FX and FXX Networks. As a matter of fact, I review The Americans each week. Now, I have some new dramatic original series to look forward to with Tyrant and The Strain, and comedic original series Married and You’re the Worst. For details on each, including the number of episodes and premiere dates, check out the official press release below.

The Americans – “Operation Chronicle” Review. Operation Jared.

The Americans – “Operation Chronicle” Review. Operation Jared. 25

As penultimate episodes go, “Operation Chronicle” hits it out of the park. The writing is fantastic, the acting superb, and it sets up the season finale perfectly, giving its audience plenty to think about and many questions to be answered.

Exclusive Scene from The Americans – “Operation Chronicle”

With only two episodes left in the brilliantly scripted FX spy series, The Americans, I am chomping at the bit for any insight into what next week’s episode has in store for Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell). To say nothing of Stan (Noah Emmerich) and Nina (Annet Mahendru), Nina and Oleg (Costa Ronin), Jared (Owen …
