Nurse Jackie – “Godfathering” Review and Photos. Blue Toes. 6

Writer Liz Flahive and director Brian Walsh do a terrific job with “Godfathering.” The dialogue in this episode is stellar, making you laugh in all the right places, and Walsh’s direction and choice of background music are spot on. “Godfathering” is a great character study of Zoey, Gloria, Coop, Jackie, and Eddie.

Nurse Jackie– “Deal” Review. By Any Means Necessary. 9

“Deal” is another excellent episode of #NurseJackie. Any episode that highlights Wallem’s fantastic voice is a hit in my eyes. Add to that brilliant direction by Julie Anne Robinson, Wever’s superb acting, and writer Tom Straw’s humorous dialogue, and you have a sure winner.

The Americans – “I Am Abassin Zadran” Retrospective. What to Do? 10

“I Am Abassin Zadran” is an exciting episode and sets up the season finale perfectly. I hope we’ll see the culmination to the Walter Taffet (guest star Jefferson Mays) story line, what happens with Martha, the close of the Northrup plot and the end of Maurice, and a resolution of what to do with Paige.

The Americans – “One Day in the Life of Anton Baklanov” Retrospective. Difficult Times Ahead 13

“One Day in the Life of Anton Baklanov” is another standalone episode that does a good job of handling the raw emotions of the three Jennings—Philip, Elizabeth, and Paige, as well as dealing with all the subplots in this season of The Americans. I particularly enjoyed the way director Andrew Bernstein uses the headlights from Elizabeth’s car to cast light on her face in the dark garage as she contemplates how to handle the mess with Paige going forward.

The Americans - "Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep?" Review. Collateral Damage. 20

“Do Mail Robots Dream of Sheep?” proves you don’t need a tremendous amount of suspense and intrigue to be a great episode. While there is a small amount of tension, mostly from the scenes involving Oleg and Zinaida, and Hans and Todd, the emotionality is what makes this episode stand out from the others. And stand out it does with terrific dialogue, expert direction, and, as usual, outstanding performances from everyone involved.

The Americans - "Divestment" Review. Ring of Fire. 24

“Divestment” is one of The Americans’ best episodes of the season. Director Dan Attias does a fantastic job arranging angle shots but particularly with the pacing of the scenes, always linking them together in some fashion the viewer may not realize at first glance.

Shameless - "Carl's First Sentencing" Retrospective. Suffering the Consequences. 25

“Carl’s First Sentencing” is another solid episode of Shameless. It is filled with good times Gallagher-style, and sad moments when Ian realizes he is his mother after all. Macy and Monaghan provide the best acting in this episode, both of them touching the hearts of the viewers.
