Crushed. Review: Lost Girl – “Can’t See the Fae-Rest”

Crushed. Review: Lost Girl - "Can't See the Fae-Rest" 1

Meeting Maganda (Pamela Matthews) for the first time, she appears to be a homeless woman—a benign character who explains to Bo the meaning of her name (“pretty of the forest”). Once it’s known she’s the killer, you can’t help but feel her sorrow and empathize with her. She is a Batibat, a tree Fae who’s lost her tree home as a result of it being cut into pieces to be sold as decorative items. If you lost your home, wouldn’t you do anything to get it back?

Seeing Kenzi show off her new Alexander McQueen-type shoes and doing a faux “Riverdance” should’ve snapped Bo out of it but dragging her away from the book to “change into someone else” proved to do the trick. Wasn’t Bo rocking those bangs, looking like a 50s biker chick?

Nadia drifts further and further away, driving Lauren straight into Bo’s arms. While Bo cares about her, Lauren loves her more. And you know how those relationships work out.

The Naughty Lady. Review: Lost Girl - "Fae Gone Wild" 4

Considering that two females wrote this episode, I feel they could’ve done better than a stripper storyline. I want to see more stories about female empowerment; Lost Girl has potential for plenty of interesting storylines involving women in strong roles. We do have The Morrigan, who’s a strong role model, but she’s not central to the show. I’m aware of the argument that women choose to become strippers or sex workers, but I don’t necessarily agree with it.

Star-Crossed Lovers? Review: Lost Girl – “It’s Better to Burn Out Than Fae Away”

Star-Crossed Lovers? Review: Lost Girl - "It's Better to Burn Out Than Fae Away" 5

Both Dark and Light Fae complain that Bo hasn’t chosen sides, but that actually works in their favor because she usually solves their cases. Besides, who can they trust besides Bo to investigate without bias? When will Bo get the thanks she deserves? She’s the only noncommittal Fae they can rely on. She’s loyal to herself and to Kenzi.

Comrades Up in Arms. Review: Lost Girl – “BrotherFae of the Wolves”

Comrades Up in Arms. Review: Lost Girl - "BrotherFae of the Wolves" 6

The Mongolian Death Worm is an elderly Light Fae named Velma (Jayne Eastwood), whose unnatural attachment to her TV can become deadly. Take away her TV and you have complete control of her. This seems to be an indictment of TV viewers; our society has become overly attached to electronic devices, practically rendering us technology-addicted zombies. Would we act as Velma does if these things were taken away from us?

Stag Hunt, Anyone? Review: Lost Girl - "I Fought the Fae (and the Fae Won)" 7

Bo’s heart is breaking so she’s going to fight harder to reunite the star-crossed lovers. The thing is, to me, this storyline is boring, along with seeking The Ash’s replacement. I couldn’t care less about it, and was more interested in seeing some sort of peace happening between Bo and Dyson.

Fae Chaos. Review: Lost Girl – “Something Wicked this Fae Comes”

Fae Chaos. Review: Lost Girl - "Something Wicked this Fae Comes" 8

When Dyson appears halfway through the episode, man, was I glad to see him. Det. Hale is a fine investigator, and I love his verbal ping ponging with Kenzi, but Bo and Dyson are a team. They just… fit. And Bo knows it. When she notices his seeming disinterest and aloofness, she tells him:
Bo: “As a team, we are pretty unbeatable. And, that is what is needed right now. You and I being Team Badass. You are going to put on your big-wolf pants and you’re gonna come with me and kick some tail. Or, I’m going to start kicking your tail.”

A Taxing Day. Review: 2 Broke Girls - And the Messy Purse Smackdown 9

With Caroline helping Max out, Max starts having visions of becoming “billionaire bitches” and daydreaming of outlandish things they’ll get if they strike it rich. For someone who is pretty street smart, Max appears to live in a bubble, oblivious to important matters, like doing her taxes! Although, her behavior when it comes to finances is a pretty accurate representation of middle America.

Drugged Up. Review: 2 Broke Girls - "And the Drug Money" 10

Showing what a true friend she is, Max offers Caroline $100 from their cupcake fund (in addition to $500 of the clinical drug money) to hire Caroline’s father’s attorney Leo Hutchinson (Josh Pais) to depose her. Amusing is watching Max’s fascination with Law & Order and trying to impress everyone with her knowledge of court proceedings: “Anything I can do to help? I’m pretty courtroom savvy. I mean, I haven’t seen every episode of ‘Law & Order.’ Just, like 400 of them.”

Cheap Kills. Review: Lost Girl – “Bloodlines”

Cheap Kills. Review: Lost Girl - "Bloodlines" 11

Ah, we see Kenzi has a soft spot! She reads trashy romance novels in secret. She’s a huge sucker for love stories, which is why she begrudgingly accepts Dyson’s plea for help after he tells her he loves Bo. What a softie! There’s no way she can say no to that. Maybe Det. Hale (K.C. Collins) will be her honey next season?

Review: Lost Girl - "Faetal Justice" - Dyson, the Big Bad Wolf 12

He’s framed for a Ba’al’s (Karl Campbell) death and, well, I’m pretty sure this is not a show where the writers kill off their main characters, like Lost or The Wire (I’m still not over the deaths of Stringer Bell and Omar). Holden-Ried does a fine snarl and growl, and I rather enjoy seeing him wolf out. I bet he enjoys it, too.

It doesn’t take long for Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge) and Oleg (Jonathan Kite) to hook up. She’s embarrassed at being caught with unkempt hair and clothes, exiting the diner kitchen by way of the back door … but why?

Review: Lost Girl - "The Mourning After" - Partner in Crime? 14

Kenzi handles it all with aplomb, practically running the investigation herself. Trick’s secretive nature won’t cave in, though, even after Kenzi says, “Takes a con to know a con. You’ve got secrets, Trickster.”

Do You Believe in Fate? Review: Lost Girl - "Fae Day" 15

Siobhan the Banshee’s (Sarah Power) ear-piercing wail in the Fae bar foretells someone’s death by sundown. It could be any one of the members of the Five Families, but I figure it’s not a major character.

The fact that Sophie is unaware of Sergiusz’s homosexuality is strange, because he’s flamboyantly gay, expressing pleasant shock at her “orange traffic cones.”

Don’t Eat the Soup! Review: Lost Girl - "Food for Thought" 21

She hasn’t watched enough Lost Girl to know that Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) does whatever she wants, whenever she wants. That’s part of her appeal, seeing where her actions take her. She hasn’t suffered nearly enough consequences, but this time, she falls deathly ill.

Happy Valentine’s Day? Review: 2 Broke Girls – “And the Broken Hearts”

Happy Valentine's Day? Review: 2 Broke Girls - "And the Broken Hearts" 22

Sadly, no one has a date for Valentine’s Day. Max (Kat Dennings) sarcastically says she wants “real love, like ‘Ice Loves Coco’” but most of the girls’ time is spent visiting Earl in the hospital, which they gladly do.

Light, Meet Dark. Review: Lost Girl - "Dead Lucky" 23

They’re at the police station and this time, they both decide they need to set some ground rules for their “friends with benefits” status. Did you see how Bo’s face falls when he reminds her they’re not exclusive?

Review: Lost Girl – “Faetal Attraction”

Review: Lost Girl - "Faetal Attraction" 24

But, Bo isn’t the only one feeling lost. Dyson can’t concentrate at work so he’s referred to a therapist. Poor Fae dude, he’s nursing a broken heart, too. He tells Detective Hale (K.C. Collins), “Therapy is bullshit, human bullshit,” but what he really needs is someone to talk to—a professional.

Review: 2 Broke Girls - "And the Blind Spot" 25

Sophie may seem like a madam, but she’s not one to mess with. Caroline (Beth Behrs) and Max (Kat Dennings) take her up on her offer to hire them as her cleaning ladies. The girls need extra money so they can build a website to sell their cupcakes.
