NEW YORK – May 22, 2014 – Continuing to expand its roster of diverse domestic and international programming, Syfy today announced it is acquiring U.S. basic cable rights to all 39 episodes (three seasons and the six-part prequel) of the popular swords and sandal series Spartacus from Starz Worldwide Distribution, the global television licensing and content syndication arm of Starz (NASDAQ: STRZA,STRZB).

In my reviews of the new FX drama Fargo, I have praised Allison Tolman, who plays Officer Molly Solverson, for being the heart of the series. Unlike her costars that are big names in Hollywood, Allison is relatively unknown. Having eluded Agents Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) and Ritter (Gbenga Akinnagbe) by firing into the crowd at the United States Embassy causing mass panic, Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) races to find the flight key that logged the data from the drone Tanner (John Boyega) was in command of. Jack believes terrorists took control of the drone, fired on US and British soldiers, and then covered their tracks to make it look like Tanner did it. Will Jack be able to find Tanner and the flight key before Morgan and Ritter find him?

On May 16, I had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Glenn Howerton, co-star of the FX series Fargo. The series was developed and written by Noah Hawley and is based on the 1996 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name. Howerton plays Don Chumph, the lovable yet dim-witted personal trainer who ends up blackmailing Stavros Milos (Oliver Platt).

I’ve been a fan of Oliver Platt’s ever since his appearance in the Disney movies Tall Tale and The Three Musketeers and on May 9, during a conference call, I was able to ask him a few questions about his role on the new FX series, Fargo. As things become dire, Lester is forced to make a tough decision in the funniest Fargo episode so far.

When 24 ended its run back in 2010, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) was on the run and wanted by both the US and Russian governments. Secretary of Defense James Heller (William Devane) told Bauer he could never go near his daughter Audrey (Kim Raver) as she became catatonic while being held prisoner by the Chinese government. So where has Bauer been and what could possibly bring him out of hiding after four years? Start the clock again because Jack Bauer is back.

Rachael (Kathleen Munroe) stands over her corpse at the morgue along with a bewildered Sheriff Langston (Matt Craven), Agent Bellamy (Omar Epps), and Pastor Tom (Mark Hildreth). It’s an erie scene that I wish had been played out more because we are not really told how much, if anything, Rachael remembers.

On April 30, I had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Colin Hanks, star of the FX series, Fargo, which is based on the 1996 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name. The Coen Brothers took a back seat with the series, serving only as executive producers. Noah Hawley developed and wrote the series. Hanks plays Duluth Minnesota police officer Gus Grimley, a passive yet endearing single father.
