Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.

In the “Season 9 Preview Special” hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown on Sunday, Aug 5, 2018, the romance between King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Carol (Melissa McBride) was mentioned and now there is photo proof (#Ezarol?) I’m sure many of you fans were hoping for a #Caryl or #Darol romance because who hasn’t shipped Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol over the years? Right? And at 2018 San Diego Comic-Con, star Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick Grimes on the series confirmed this is his final season. It will be interesting to see how things play out and I’m looking forward to seeing it unfold.

Movie Review: Sierra Burgess Is A Loser. Delightful, Witty, and Reminiscent of ‘80s Grandeur. 2

If you never heard of the play “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand, or the film Roxanne, it’s OK because Sierra Burgess Is A Loser stands on its own merits thanks to screenwriter Lindsey Beer. The film has everything you could want in a classic high school-esque rom-com: humor, wit, mean girls, awesome best friends, the quintessential “hot jock,” that amazingly supportive teacher who totally gets you, and, of course, a fantastic love story. For those of you who’ve watched (either at home or in the theater) some of the most phenomenal romantic comedies of the ‘80s like Sixteen Candles, Say Anything, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Better Off Dead, and so many more, you are going to fall in love with Sierra Burgess Is A Loser.

Movie Recap: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. A Fantastic Journey Into the Heart and Mind of a Teenage Girl. 3

After watching To All the Boys, I wondered whether screenwriter Sofia Alvarez had somehow read my teenage diary. While I’m no longer a teenager (far, far from it), I resonated with the lead character, Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor). She reads way too many romantic novels (so did I) and fantasizes about being in relationships with boys. The entire tale is beautiful, starting with the Covey family. Three sisters – Margot (Janel Parrish), Lara Jean, and Kitty (Anna Cathcart) – are being raised by their widowed father, Dr. Covey (John Corbett). Being Asian-American, I felt To All the Boys does an excellent job of representing what it is like growing up in a predominately Caucasian area. And as a ‘hapa’(which is how some people of Asian descent pronounce the word ‘half’) myself (half Asian/Caucasian), I truly felt a connection with the three Covey girls.

Movie Review: Brothers of the Wind – Visually Stunning, Thoughtful, and Enlightening Adventure.

Movie Review: Brothers of the Wind – Visually Stunning, Thoughtful, and Enlightening Adventure. 5

Brothers of the Wind is visually stunning. It’s also very thoughtful and enlightening. It’s the tried and true tale of man and beast, so to speak, but in this instance, it is a boy and an eagle, each growing and learning how to survive. The story follows young Lukas (Manuel Camacho), whose strained relationship with Keller (Tobias Moretti), his slightly overbearing father, leads him to find solace in nature. At peace in the wilderness among the woodland creatures, Lukas finds his own way in the world and in life. Brothers of the Wind is narrated by the amazing Jean Reno who plays Danzer, a man of the wild who also loves nature.

The Walking Dead – “The Key” Recap. Batter Up!

The Walking Dead – “The Key” Recap. Batter Up! 9

To care or not to care about others? That is the burning (all puns intended) question. This week’s installment of The Walking Dead is full of malicious back stabbing, duplicitous acts, burning bats and walkers, naked walkers, and a new group that could be friendly. All in all, “The Key” provides some interesting points of view from several characters.

The Walking Dead – “Dead or Alive or…” Review. To Have Faith or Not.

The Walking Dead – “Dead or Alive or...” Review. To Have Faith or Not. 11

Call me crazy, but I liked this week’s installment of The Walking Dead. While I’m not religious, the message in “Dead or Alive or…” has dual meaning. Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) wants Dr. Carson (R. Keith Harris) to have “faith” that God is watching over them, guiding them to “salvation;” however, it can also mean these jaded and embittered survivors need to believe in each other. Whatever your creed may be, “Dead or Alive or…” provides a much needed reprieve from the onslaught of flashbacks, flash-forwards, and everything in between that has confused many this season (I know I’m not alone). However, this episode doesn’t have a flash-anything, and I’m more than OK with that.

The Walking Dead – “The Lost and the Plunderers” Review. What the Hell is Going On?

The Walking Dead – “The Lost and the Plunderers” Review. What the Hell is Going On? 13

Am I alone in my confusion? I can’t be the only person to find something amiss with The Walking Dead. Watching “The Lost and the Plunderers” put me further into a confused state of mind as I tried to figure out where the hell the writers are going this season. The cryptic, pseudo-future scenes that have been peppered throughout the season are nothing more than the imagined alternate reality Carl (Chandler Riggs) dreamed up in his head. It’s not going to happen. No matter how much the various groups try, that delusional utopian vision will not come to fruition. The kumbaya combined colonization of AKH (Alexandria, Kingdom, Hilltop groups), The Saviors, Oceanside, hell, even the Scavengers, aka the “garbage people,” won’t happen. If it does, that will be the end of The Walking Dead; everyone getting along, picking veggies from the garden, with only walkers to contend with sounds boring.

The Walking Dead – Mid-Season Premiere “Honor.” Review. Goodbye Carl, Hello Negan?

The Walking Dead – Mid-Season Premiere “Honor.” Review. Goodbye Carl, Hello Negan? 17

The Walking Dead mid-season premiere heavily peppers in some tear jerker moments as we all say goodbye to Carl (Chandler Riggs). That’s not a spoiler. The entire “90-minute” episode goes back and forth between flashbacks to previous episodes, flash-forwards to a bright yet surreal future, and the present. So much happens in “Honor,” this would technically be a recap if I began to get into all the various storylines folded into the episode. The heart of “Honor” is saying goodbye to Carl.
