Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.

The Strain – “Occultation” Review. It’s Not Mole People.

The Strain – “Occultation” Review. It’s Not Mole People. 1

“Occultation” is an intense and freakishly nail-biting television experience. I appreciate the brief moments of reprieve from the tongue gouging infected people lurking in dark corners, like Nora’s (Mia Maestro) mother Mariela (Anne Betancourt) vacuuming. But the infected people—or strigoi creatures as they’re known—aren’t all underground anymore; they’re coming topside. There isn’t enough of a food source in the sewers. As an aside, the opening of “Occultation” sent chills down my spine. Eichorst is one scary mother—shut yo’ mouth.

Mission Blue, Netflix Original Documentary – Reasons to Hope

Mission Blue, Netflix Original Documentary – Reasons to Hope 2

When presented with the opportunity to screen this amazing documentary, I didn’t hesitate. After watching Mission Blue, I’m flabbergasted and ashamed of what we, as humans, have done to our home, to our planet. Mission Blue is a startling revelation of how we have systematically worn away at our own ecosystem. Overfishing and polluting our oceans have led to the decline of certain species of fish to a dangerous level. While the ocean produces nearly half the oxygen we need to survive, we are essentially killing our air supply.

Legends – “Pilot” Review. Major Identity Crisis…But in a Good Way.

Legends – “Pilot” Review. Major Identity Crisis...But in a Good Way. 4

If you are a fan of anything dealing with spies, then Legends is the show for you. The season premiere is wrought with tense moments, kick-ass action sequences, and explosions. Of course, there is intrigue, and Bean is downright fantastic throughout! He’s got moves like Jagger! I’m in awe of how he operates. The way Bean presents himself as he transforms from his Martin Odum character into Lincoln Dittmann is hypnotic. “Pilot” introduces us to Martin by giving us a brief but very specific look inside the life of an FBI DCO.

The Strain – “Runaways” Review. Strigoi, Not Vampire.

The Strain – “Runaways” Review. Strigoi, Not Vampire. 5

“Runaways” grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very last second. And even though there are many moments when you wish you could turn away and hide from the fiendishly scary scenes, you can’t help but look through your fingers to watch the chaos and darkness unfold. Eph (Corey Stoll) and Abraham (David Bradley) are still inside the Arnot household after beheading both Gary (Steven McCarthy) and his daughter Emma (Isabelle Nélisse). I guess lopping off the heads of “strigoi” takes a lot out of you and you need eggs and toast to refuel.

Falling Skies – “A Thing with Feathers” Top Three Moments.

Falling Skies - “A Thing with Feathers” Top Three Moments. 6

If you are hoping, because of the episode title, to see winged creatures swooping in, shaking their feathers at the rag tag group of survivors, you’ll be disappointed. But don’t fret. “A Thing with Feathers” is quite the entertaining and exciting episode, despite the lack of feathers. A lot goes on in “A Thing with Feathers.”

The Strain – “It’s Not For Everyone” Review. Vampire Anatomy 101.

The Strain – “It’s Not For Everyone” Review. Vampire Anatomy 101. 8

As “It’s Not For Everyone” begins, Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) slice open the remains of one of the four survivors, Captain Redfern (Jonathan Potts) and what they discover is startling—not to mention disgusting. Remember we saw Eph and Nora get an up close look at the anatomy of a vampire in “Gone Smooth” last week. The Strain does a magnificent job of creating this world where vampires exist, yet are so profoundly different from anything we’ve seen on television or even on the big screen.

Falling Skies “Saturday Night Massacre” – Top Three Moments. 10

“Saturday Night Massacre” feels more like a penultimate episode rather than a regular one. With only ten episodes per season, we are inching closer to the fourth season finale, and if “Saturday Night Massacre” is any indication, more lives will be lost before any headway is made. Lexi (Scarlett Byrne) emerges from her cocoon, and while she still looks the same, she isn’t. Lexi’s powers have magnified exponentially and she’s chosen her Espheni family over her human family.

The Strain – “The Box” Review. Bath Time Is Not Fun Time.

The Strain – “The Box” Review. Bath Time Is Not Fun Time. 15

The Strain continues along its dark and creepy path with “The Box.” As we’ve learned from the series premiere, “Night Zero,” something infected 210 people aboard an airplane. Toward the end of “Night Zero,” the presumably dead passengers make a comeback. As we find out in “The Box,” the strange worms seem to like blood – but I don’t think they discriminate between species.

Falling Skies “Mind Wars” – Top Three Moments.

Anne (Moon Bloodgood) has her hands full in the not so tranquil sanctuary of China Town. The Espheni overlord is playing a dirty mind game with poor Ben (Connor Jessup) and when Anne decides to stop playing nice, it’s Ben who bears the brunt. Lexi (Scarlett Byrne) does something quite shocking but I think we all knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Meanwhile, Tom (Noah Wyle), Weaver (Will Patton), and young Matt (Maxim Knight) are heading out to find where Hal (Drew Roy) and the rest of the crew went but are sidetracked when two men take Tom prisoner.

You’re the Worst – Series Premiere “Pilot” Review. Don’t Spit On It.

You’re the Worst – Series Premiere “Pilot” Review. Don’t Spit On It. 20

While You’re the Worst isn’t the most horrible series I’ve ever seen, I would venture to say it’s an acquired taste. It’s raunchy. If you’re a bit shy, be warned; there is a lot of sexual activity going on in the first 15 minutes of the episode. While there are no gratuitous shots of boobs or genitals (great camera maneuvering), the implied acts are pretty straightforward. The flipping and flopping, hair pulling, spitting (eww), and dropping to your knees action…you know exactly what the heck is going on.

On his unsanctioned mission, Pope runs into trouble, whose name is Sara (guest star Mira Sorvino).
