Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.

Haven — “Spotlight” Recap. Pancakes and Laser Beams.

Haven — “Spotlight” Recap. Pancakes and Laser Beams. 1

Before we get into Nathan and Mara’s groping scenes (oh yeah), let’s talk about the new “trouble” happening in “Spotlight.” A Haven resident, Jody (Lucia Walters), is shooting laser beams from her chest. I know I’m not the only one thinking she has laser boobs! Alas, the lasers come from her torso but don’t originate in the center of her breasts like those boob-guns from Austin Powers. These laser beams are deadly and cause a lot of anxiety for many.

Black-ish – “Pilot” Review. Keepin' It Real with Baked Fried Chicken? 2

There is a term, white washed, that comes to mind when you think of ethnic groups who’ve become distant from their cultural background. Basically, if you are of a non-white origin, get a good education, a great paying job, and move out of the proverbial hood, you’ve become white washed. What’s wrong with wanting to better yourself and create a prosperous life for your family? After all, America is a giant melting pot, right? I mean, even food is getting in on it. There is Asian fusion, Tex-Mex, and a bevy of mixed up everything. Our venture into the Johnson family’s world revolves around one thing – have they lost their blackness?

Castle Season 7 Premiere – “Driven” Advance Review. Runaway Groom? 3

Exciting and aggravating; dramatic and emotional; the season seven premiere of Castle will put you through the ringer before it’s over. As “Driven” opens, Kate, looking stunning in her wedding dress, runs toward the wreckage, overcome with emotion, only to be held back by the raging fire. Is this the end? Is Castle gone? He isn’t in the car and he’s nowhere to be found. So, where is Richard Castle?

Sleepy Hollow – “This Is War” Review. Loop Holes and Illusions. 4

Explosive and mesmerizing! Sleepy Hollow gallops back onto television screens full force in “This Is War.” Last we saw, our lovable, yet overdressed Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), was buried in a wooden crate at the hands of his long lost son Henry Parish (John Noble). Abbie (Nicole Beharie) is trapped in Purgatory, and her sister Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) is left for dead in the middleof the road. Meanwhile, Ichabod’s beloved wife, and witch, Katrina (Katia Winter) has been taken by the Headless Horseman (Jeremey Owens). As we dive into “This Is War,” something strange happens.

The Strain – “The Third Rail” Review. Claustrophobic Endeavors. 5

Nail biter. Jaw dropping. Gripping. Any and all of these words don’t come close to describing what transpires in “The Third Rail.” If you are at all claustrophobic, take note; this will probably be a tough episode to watch. Nearly every scene is wrought with tension, amplifying your anxiety and nervousness for what will happen next. From Gus (Miguel Gómez) making a horrifying discovery when he gets home, to young Zach (Ben Hyland) leaving the sanctuary of Abraham’s (David Bradley) pawn shop on a fool’s errand, “The Third Rail” will have you glued to your seat— although you’ll probably be watching through your fingers most of the time.

Haven — “Speak No Evil” Top 5 Moments. Pencils Can Be Deadly. 6

“Speak No Evil” doesn’t lose traction after the shocking end to last week’s season premiere, “See No Evil,” during which Mara (Emily Rose) shoots Nathan (Lucas Bryant). I knew he wasn’t dead…ok, so I was worried a little, but the writers can’t kill Nathan. They just can’t. As “Speak No Evil” begins, Duke (Eric Balfour) finds Nathan but is oblivious to Nathan’s injury because he’s so consumed with finding Jennifer (Emma Lahana). But, if you recall in the season four finale, “The Lighthouse,” Jennifer stopped breathing inside the cave.

Forever – “Pilot” Advance Review. Sherlock Holmes Meets Indiana Jones with Bond Style.

Forever – “Pilot” Advance Review. Sherlock Holmes Meets Indiana Jones with Bond Style. 8

Why does everything sound better with a deep, lush British accent? Admittedly, I was drawn to the premise of Forever because I’ve got a twisted fascination with immortality, the supernatural, and a good mystery. But after learning Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced: Yo-An Griffith) would play the lead character, Dr. Henry Morgan, I was in! Forever is a fun, new kind of drama with flare. It’s Sherlock Holmes meets Indiana Jones with a pinch of James Bond mixed in. There is mystery, intrigue, murders, antiques, and of course, a bit of danger.

The Strain – “Loved Ones” Retrospective. The Chosen One.

The Strain – “Loved Ones” Retrospective. The Chosen One. 9

The saying, ‘we hurt the ones we love the most,’ rings loud and clear in “Loved Ones.” Why do the newborn strigoi go after their family first? Is it our innate need to be close to those who love us when we aren’t feeling our best? While this hasn’t been fully explained, I think we all seek out the familiar when we are sick, hurt, or scared. Unfortunately, the people we care for the most are the ones that also suffer the most.

Haven — “See No Evil” Review. Monkey See. Monkey Shoot. Monkey Taser? 10

Haven is back but this is a much darker Haven than we last saw in the season four finale “The Lighthouse.” “See No Evil” is a shocking and enthralling season premiere. Haven ups the ante for this season. Of note, there are several clues from last season that play a major role in what goes down in the season five premiere “See No Evil.” And we will definitely see plenty of dastardly deeds happening courtesy of Mara (Emily Rose).

Conf Call: HAVEN Season 5 - Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant Talk About Love Suckers, Pancakes, and Lots of Steam 11

This was the most fun I’ve had on a call in a long time. Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant have such great banter during this call especially fielding things like being called “a love sucker” and the hilarious exchange regarding Nathan and Audrey making “pancakes” last season. Apparently there will be more “pancakes” maybe some “waffles” and a whole lot of “steam” happening this season.

The Strain – “The Disappeared” Review. Holy Bat Caves! 14

Holy bat caves, Batman, “The Disappeared” is darker than an underground lair! There are many revelations during this episode, and we finally get to see The Master (Robert Maillet). “The Disappeared” picks up after Matt (Drew Nelson) was attacked at his place of employment. We know new strigoi go back to their loved ones to feed so what Matt, Kelly’s (Natalie Brown) new live-in boyfriend, does isn’t unexpected. Needless to say, Eph’s (Corey Stoll) young son Zach (Ben Hyland) gets a startling surprise when he comes home. My heart raced during this very intense scene as Zach desperately tries to maneuver his way around a very hungry Matt. And where is Kelly by the way?

Falling Skies takes us on an epic journey throughout its two-hour season four finale. From dreams to reality, we aren’t quite sure what’s real or just a façade, but one thing is clear, the humans are willing to fight to the death to rid themselves of the Espheni.

The Strain – “Creatures of the Night” Review. Nailed It! 18

As much as I want to see a continuation, even a small tidbit of where the strigoi SWAT team comes from in last week’s “For Services Rendered,” I can’t say I’m at all disappointed in what goes down in this week’s “Creatures of the Night.” If the title doesn’t clue you in, this episode explores how the newborn strigoi—a type of vampire, according to our resident strigoi guru Abraham (David Bradley)—behave when stalking their prey. I thought they were mindless, blood thirty creatures, but on the contrary, they are clever in how they corner their victims.

Video Interviews - Cast of Falling Skies Talk About Season 4 and Season 5 19

A Musical For Season 5? Throughout the press room round tables, I was able to speak with many of the main cast including Doug Jones (Cochise), Maxim Knight (Matt Mason), Drew Roy (Hal Mason), Sarah Carter (Maggie), Moon Bloodgood (Anne Glass), and Scarlett Byrne (Lexi). I also spoke with writer David Eick who gave us major insight into what’s coming in the final season.

The Strain – “For Services Rendered” Review. Strigoi SWAT Team? 21

Let’s address the ginormous elephant in the room – who the hell are those hooded men (for lack of a better term) who come charging their way through Joan Luss’ (Leslie Hope) house? Whoever you are, thank you for saving Neeva (Kim Roberts) and the Luss children, but what the heck are you? They’re like the Strigoi SWAT Team; they look like strigoi but aren’t mindless like the newbies wandering the streets. I’ve asked before and I’ll ask again – do these strigoi creatures become more civilized with time? Are they able to control their thirst like the enigmatic Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel)? I’m thoroughly intrigued and buckled in for the long haul!

Falling Skies – “Drawing Straws” Top Three Moments. Luck of the Draw.

Falling Skies – “Drawing Straws” Top Three Moments. Luck of the Draw. 22

“Drawing Straws” has a couple of Star Wars references. Like Pope telling Tom, “Sorry, I forgot your master plan – hijacking the Millennium Falcon out there and fly it to the moon.” While there are some similarities in the premise of Star Wars and Falling Skies, what Falling Skies does in this penultimate episode is remind you of the human spirit. But let’s play Devil’s advocate – what if the Espheni aren’t really evil aliens?

Falling Skies – “’Til Death Do Us Part” Top Three Moments. To the Moon, Alice! 25

Falling Skies continues along a familiar path – love conquers all. Whether it’s a father trying to save his children, a woman trying to save her man, or even being afraid to give in to love, “’Til Death Do Us Part” shows us that sometimes, love is all you need. Well, that and a way to get to the moon. A few guns wouldn’t hurt either.
