The International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) agents are always involved in crazy situations and San Diego Comic Con affords the perfect opportunity to check in on Sterling Archer and see what the crew is up to for Archer’s season five.
I spoke to Aisha Tyler and Chris Parnell first, the Comic-Con veterans of the group with this year being their fourth visit to the popular convention. Of the entire cast, Tyler wins hands down the “Busiest Comic-Con Schedule” award. She has sound check appointments, parties, a network dinner, fan appreciation events, and more to attend. We go for the juicy stuff right away: how is Lana Kane handling her pregnancy?
“She has divided priorities,” Tyler explains. “When you have a baby all your focus changes.”
With these new responsibilities, will Lana remain as committed to ISIS as before?
“She’s not going to stop working. Like many women who get pregnant, she has to continue working,” Tyler says. “Lana is not the person who is going to go on bed rest; she’ll do a whole bunch of really inappropriate things for a pregnant woman.”
The most obvious question of all begged to be asked – who is Lana’s baby daddy? We know it isn’t Cyril but Chris Parnell still teases us a bit. “I think I know who it’s going to be ultimately because Adam has hinted at it a little bit,” he says. “I think it’s going to take some turns, we’re going to think it’s somebody and it’s somebody else’s baby.”
Parnell isn’t sure where Lana and Cyril’s relationship is going next but reveals his character “will continue to be tormented by the fact that Lana is pregnant with whoever’s child it is.”
Amber Nash’s character isn’t pregnant but Nash is hoping for more threesomes for Pam. “Fivesomes!” Show creator Adam Reed suggests. Not to be outdone in this spontaneous brainstorming of potential plot lines for Pam, Nash adds the idea of “weird sex clubs.” Executive producer Matt Thompson jumps in with, “What is the first rule about sex club?” He quickly adds (with Nash nearly echoing him), “You always talk about sex club!”
**Enthusiastic Claps**
These are the interviews I love to do. Due to time constraints, roundtable interviews could be dry but interacting with engaged talent – especially with a flair for comedy! – makes the conversation a totally fun experience.
From sex talk, we move on to discuss what’s happening with Pam in season five and talk about her interesting hobbies, like drift racing.
Reed volunteers that the ISIS gang is busy doing something else and as a result, “It’s taking all of their time so Pam is not going to have time for drifting much. Pam is going to have another run in with the Yakuza gang but it’s not drift racing-related, it’s something else nefarious.”
Last season, Pam’s doomsday obsession was revealed and I’d like to know if this will be revisited next season but I don’t get a straight answer. That’s when I realize I haven’t really been getting a lot of straight answers to my questions. Has the ISIS Team been sworn to secrecy for their San Diego Comic-Con mission?
Considering that the show typically previews an entire episode for the fans and how this year that didn’t happen…one has to wonder. Tyler confirms my suspicions: “Unfortunately, this next season is going to be so explosive that we can’t show anything. We don’t want to give anything away. All I can say is when I read that first script, I was like holy shit.”
That is good to know! I get even more excited when Tyler adds, “People are going to love next season and it’s going to be an interesting season; our group is really going to have rely on each other.”
