“We remember you now and we need you back. So please, my darling granddaughter, just tell us, where are you?” – Trick

As much as I love Lost Girl, “Sleeping Beauty School” leaves a lot to be desired. A filler episode, at best, there are only a few things that actually stand out for me. One — the rebirth of a Valkyrie; two – the Una Mens and their desire to possess Bo (Anna Silk); and lastly — the “death train.”

Babysitting

Hale and Dyson must find Eddy (a Fae tracker) but they have some catty femme fatales to contend with.

If you recall from season three, we learned Tamzin (Rachel Skarsten) is a Fae known as a Valkyrie. They live many lives but must be reborn into them. Dyson (Kris Holden Reid) has found Tamzin in her latest reincarnation, yet she isn’t quite the same. And because Dyson and Hale (K.C. Collins) must be the ones to find Bo, that leaves our feisty Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) to play babysitter for an equally unruly young Tamzin (Ava Preston). I enjoyed this aspect of Tamzin’s story arc because the writers have created Valkyries to have similarities to the phoenix – reborn from ashes, so to speak. With young Tamzin growing at a rapid rate, it won’t be long before she’s a full grown woman again, but Dyson can’t wait – he needs to find Bo.

Romance

Crystal knows that Lauren isn't really a waitress...but I'm not so sure Crystal can be trusted either.

Crystal knows that Lauren isn’t really a waitress…but I’m not so sure Crystal can be trusted either.

It’s interesting how the dynamic within the cast changes again. In season one, Bo and Dyson immediately hit it off but when Dyson lost his love to the Norn (Kate Trotter), Bo was forced, in a way, to seek love elsewhere. Lost Girl isn’t afraid to show love in all forms and with Bo in the arms of Lauren (Zoie Palmer), it seemed things were taking a new direction. But now that Lauren appears to have betrayed the Fae, she’s on the run and it is Dyson who is going into a different realm to save the woman he loves. I’ll admit I want Dyson and Bo to be together but does Bo even remember who she used to be? Trapped in a carriage car on a train traveling in darkness, it seems Bo can’t quite recall who “Kenz” is, nor does it appear she’s aware of where she is. As an aside, I’m not digging Lauren’s red locks or too short bangs. Although, Crystal (Ali Liebert) doesn’t mind one bit; sorry Crystal, Lauren’s heart is spoken for.

And how sweet is Hale? What he says to Kenzi made me sigh with happiness. “I like you. Everytime I walk into a room, you are all I can look at. You have so much style and strength that no human should have. I want to be a part of that.” I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Kenzi and Hale getting together and I’m still not sure. I love them both, equally, but I don’t know if I love them together. I’ll see how it plays out.

Fae or Foe

Clio is hiding something much bigger than just taking gigs for Eddy. What is she up to?

Clio is hiding something much bigger than just taking gigs for Eddy. What is she up to?

Clio (guest star Mia Kirshner), by all appearances, is helpful but in reality, is far from it. Why does she want Dyson and Hale’s memories erased…again? Was it Clio who did the mind wipe in “In Memoriam?” When Eddy (Benjamin Ayres) is placed under a sleeping spell by Selene (Cynthia Preston), his duties as a tracker conveniently fall to Clio. What is Clio’s endgame? Why is she making deals with Vex (Paul Amos)? Does she hold a grudge against Bo? Clio is a Fae known as a Nymph. Is that short for nymphomaniac? If so, would that mean a Nymph and Succubus both feed off sexual energy, thus making Bo competition for Clio? Whatever the case may be, Clio is helping Dyson get on board that “death train,” but her intentions are to save Bo for another purpose.

Vex’s encounter with the Una Mens looks painful. I know he’s trying to save himself but he has no right to offer up something, or rather, someone, who he has no business offering up. His life for Bo’s? I know Vex is a conniving weasel, but this takes the cake. I’ll wait to see how this goes before I completely toss Vex to the curb. I can’t say I blame him, though. The Una Mens don’t play nice.

Overall

While “Sleeping Beauty School” isn’t completely enthralling, there are some key elements in the episode that will surely reemerge in future episodes this season. Is Eddy really gone? Can Dyson make it to the other realm in time? Bo jumping off the train is really not a good sign. Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
