“Jack wants her. Jack needs her. Jack gets her.”President Heller

Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Kate (Yvonne Strahovski)

After the raid on what is believed to be Margot’s (Michelle Fairley) hideout goes horribly wrong, President Heller (William Devane) caves to Jack’s (Kiefer Sutherland) list of demands, putting him back in the field. Will Jack be able to use his contacts to locate Margot before more drone missiles are unleashed?

Did anyone else notice Jack’s eyes catching a glimpse of the President’s pills? I have a feeling the President’s Alzheimers is going to become more of an issue as we enter the second half of the season. My fear is that the writers are going to use it as an easy plot device and in doing so, diminish the seriousness of Alzheimers and what it does to a person.

I have to admit it’s great seeing Jack being let loose by the President. Sure, we saw Jack on the attack earlier but that was more survival mode Jack. This is Jack unleashed with Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) by his side and the President of the United States’ blessing to do whatever it takes. It doesn’t get any better than that for 24 fans.

Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Boudreau (Tate Donovan)

While brief, I really appreciated the scene between Boudreau (Tate Donovan) and Jack. It’s a scene that easily could have been cut but instead, it shows a softer side of Jack who otherwise would have told Boudreau to get out of his way as he storms off. Hopefully, Boudreau will show the same level of compassion when Jack needs it, especially after the Russian embassy calls Boudreau asking when Jack will be turned over to them. After all, it was Boudreau who forged the President’s signature turning Jack over to the Russians. I have a feeling the President’s Alzheimers will play a part in getting Boudreau off the hook.

Prime Minister Davies (Stephen Fry) struggles with honoring President Heller’s request for discretion in allowing Jack to do what he sees fit, especially due to the safety of his people who face a looming terrorist attack. Complicating matters, the Prime Minister learns about President Heller’s medical condition, which causes him to start second guessing the President’s decisions.

One of the conditions Jack requests from President Heller is that Agent Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) be put back in the field as his partner. Jack knows the best way to find Margot is through a contact of his named Karl Rask (Aksel Hennie). Unfortunately, Rask wants Jack dead because he thinks Jack betrayed him. Jack tells Morgan his plan involves using her as bait by pretending she is his prisoner. Knowing Rask will torture her, Jack gives Morgan a syringe of propofol, which will knock her out long enough for Chloe to work her computer magic. I was impressed with Jack giving Morgan a choice as usually, he would just stab her with the syringe and go ahead with his plan.

Morgan agrees way too easily, causing me to wonder if it’s because she has the same reckless abandonment as Jack. Or, with her husband deemed an enemy spy, does Morgan feel she has something to prove to the agency, or perhaps she’s paying a self-induced penance for her husband’s wrongs. Your guess is as good as mine.

Kate (Yvonne Strahovski)

Jack’s plan backfires when Rask uses another drug to wake Morgan up. The torture scenes are painful to watch because Morgan is hung up by chains. Did anyone else try to put their arms in the position hers were in? I tried and let me tell you, it hurt!

Margot sends Simone (Emily Berrington) to find out what Naveed’s (Sacha Dhawan) sister Farah (Tehmina Sunny) knows about the attack, and whether she or her daughter Yasmin (Nikita Mehta) pose any threat to their plan. Farah has been worrying because she hasn’t heard from Naveed since he left her a message saying they were getting out of town.

Just as it looks like Morgan is a goner, British troops storm the building and Morgan kicks some serious ass Jack Bauer style. Turns out Prime Minister Davies decided to have Jack followed. I guess the trust between the two leaders is gone. Despite everything going wrong with Jack’s plan, Chloe is able to gain access to Rask’s computer and gets the needed information. It will be interesting to see if Morgan has any lingering issues from being tortured to the brink of death.

Despite assurances from Simone that Farah knows nothing, Margot orders her to kill both Farah and Yasmin. Simone has a sudden change of heart and tries to convince Farah to get out of town but a struggle ensues and Simone ends up stabbing Farah. Hearing the commotion, Yasmin runs into the street screaming for help. Simone chases after her but is hit by a car. Somehow, I doubt this is the last we will see of her.

The big reveal of the night comes when we learn Morgan’s husband might actually be innocent and set up by Navaro (Benjamin Bratt). It was only a matter of time before someone in the CIA turned out to be a mole as that seems to be a common practice on 24. The real question is who Navaro is working for and what his motives are.

I provide testosterone to the site. You won’t be reading about how nice a actress looks in a dress or how much of a hunk Matt Bomer is in my reviews. I describe colors using words like brown, not taupe. My twitter name is @staffaroadtrip because I love road trips and have done two different 48-state road trips since 2008. My favorite show is White Collar.
