If the name rings a bell, it’s true – Max Winkler is the son of Henry Winkler ( @hwinker4real on Twitter) – and he’s the writer/director of the new film Ceremony, 2010 Toronto International Film Festival official selection, opening in limited release starting Friday, April 8, 2011. Scroll below for play dates in a town near you.
Synopsis:
Sam Davis (Michael Angarano) convinces his former best friend to spend a weekend with him to rekindle their friendship at an elegant beachside estate owned by a famous documentary filmmaker (Lee Pace). But it soon becomes clear that Sam is secretly infatuated with the filmmaker’s fiancée, Zoe (Uma Thurman), and that his true intention is to thwart their impending nuptials. As Sam’s plan begins to unravel, he is forced to realize how complicated love and friendship can be.
I am excited to see this film for one main reason – Lee Pace. I fell in love with him when he played Ned, the pie-maker, on a little show called Pushing Daisies (I was so sad to see it cancelled by ABC but at the time, the economic recession was at its height and there were tons of special effects in this series.) Alas, I digress. Lee Pace is just a good actor whom I want to see more of on the big screen and on television. His turn in the movie Miss Pettigrew Live For A Day was delightfully endearing.
Of course Ceremony has another well known star, the indelible Uma Thurman. I actually liked her portrayal as Medusa in Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. She’s so versitile and isn’t afraid to take risks in her career. (Yes, I actually watched the movie and I admit I liked it too. I’m quirky like that *wink*)
Here are some more pictures from the movie, inlcuding a photo of writer/director Max Winkler. Magnolia Pictures has press kits online for most of their films. I think it’s great they do because it helps them get their name out more to smaller sites like ours and reach a broader audience. In my opinion, I think a lot of indie film studios should be more open to putting their media kits online. Most can’t really afford the luxury of being stingy and reserving their information only for the major media outlets.
